Elderly
How We Help the Elderly
Many of the now elderly population of Romania lived under the leader Nicolae Ceausescu, who’s economic policies over his 25 years in power destroyed the standard of living for many Romanian people. Today, many of Romania’s elderly live in isolated rural areas with low income and poor living standards. Our aim is to bridge the gap that underfunded and poorly organised social systems have caused.
A place of refuge at Milly Senior’s Village
This residential centre for the elderly consists of housing and gardens, as well as idyllic landscapes consisting of farms, an orchard and pond. Not only are the essentials of running water and food given, but so too is medical care and recovery.
The residents take part in recreational activities, themed parties and birthday celebrations. Laundry and housing services are provided for those who need it, and staff available to help with everything from cooking to accompanying a resident for a walk.
Care delivered to the doors of elderly
More than 20 years ago, our partners in Romania were the first non-governmental organisation in Bacau to deliver a dedicated home care programme for the elderly. The objective was simple: ensure that the elderly had access to medical and social care services at home, regardless of their health or economic status.
Today, beneficiaries can receive independent evaluation of their health as well as direct aid of food or materials. Care plans are drawn up depending on the needs, and could include shopping services, food preparation, housekeeping, social contact, on-going medical care and much more.
The Dr. Stefan Ciobanu day centre for the elderly
This daytime home for elderly provides everything to help enrich their lives for a few hours a day. Daily activities in both individual and group dynamics, as well as medical and social care for those who require it.
Around 30 elderly people a day will be helped at the centre by the trained staff.
