Over 1 million elderly people in Romania struggle daily due to the country’s lack of funding for vital services. An inadequate amount of residential homes means elderly people rely on their communities and families, often in isolated and underdeveloped areas.
Thanks to the FSC and kind help from its supporters, their initiative celebrated 10 years of creating a peaceful, soulful space for elderly to live with dignity and joy.
Today, the village has a capacity of 75 and boasts beautiful gardens and views. The plan is to continue the story of Milly’s and expand the number of houses and people it helps. The hope is one day to even have a small church within the village so that it can one day become a functioning traditional village of Romania.
The day was celebrated with ceremonies, traditional dancing, and beautiful foods including fruits from the village’s orchard as well as speeches from both the beneficiaries as well as volunteers.
“Together we created a place where seniors feel loved, respected and supported. With sincere gratitude I thank the families of the beneficiaries for the trust they have placed in us and for their cooperation in ensuring that each person receives the best possible care.”
Cristina Beganu, coordinator of the Home for the Elderly “Milly Senior Village”
“I’m glad to be a part of this community and to meet so many people who communicate so well. Here I get the best care and I am grateful for all the moments this community gives me.”
